his
family in a one-room house on a small family farm on west end of the Red Lake
Indian Reservation. As a teenager, Andy
began using his creative mind to design and build boats, go-carts, “ham”
radios, metal rockets, air-powered sleds, farm machinery, and tools. In the fall of 1964, after two years at
Bemidji State University, he began employment as a draftsmen doing engineering
and production drawings at Polaris Industries in Roseau, MN. It was during this time that he developed the
Lil’ Andy snowmobile. By the spring of
1965 production was started on the little snowmobile and Andy returned to Bemidji
State University to complete his education in physics and industrial
technology.
